Names:

Erba Pagana (Italian, Middle Ages)(German) Consolida-Saracenia,verge d'Or,Goldruthe,Woundwort,Aarons' Rod.

History:

Goldenrod was used as a wound herb, hence the name, consolida, from the Latin 'to make whole'. Native to Europe, North Africa and Asia. An ingredient in "Faltrank", a Swiss vulnerary.

Constituents:

essential oil, flavonoids, tannins, aponins, various organic acids - mianly citiric, tartaric and oxalic acids.

Uses:

anti -inflammatory, expectorant, vulnerary, astringent, weakly diuretic, externally in poultices and ointments to assist healing in tissue. Internally for the same urino-genital inflammations, chronic skin problems, with other remedies as an adjuvant (assisting agent) for asthma, arthritis and rheumatism, of great value for diptheria, yellow dye from leaves and flowers, bladder stones, calms sickness due to weak digestion,
