Tansy is also classified as Chrysanthemum vulgare (L) Bernh.
arthemisia domestica

An old name for Tansy is arthemisia domestica, since it was rubbed into meat to repel flies in the Middle Ages.

Traditional use is as an insecticide.

Used as a dewormer in Christian traditional votive cuisine.
Another former use for extracted oil of Tansy was an external rub for rheumatic pain.
Tansy has been useful for repellant sachets and scented articles.

Essential oil comprising thujone (to 70%) and borneol
vitamin C
tannins
resin
citric acid
butyric acid
oxalic acid
lipids.
Use the fresh or dried flowering stems.

Antihelmintic
insecticide
emmenagogue.

Treatment (small doses) for roundworms.
Digestive aid.
Can be used in infusion as a gargle in gingivitis.

Contra-Indications



Large doses are an irritant.
Do not use during pregnancy. Risk of miscarriage.




Save your Tansy flowers when fully and freshly opened, for a pretty dried flower arrangement. Use extra leaves and dried flowers in Pomanders for the wardrobe.
A traditional insect repellant, Tansy may be dried and poked into a clove-studded orange, then hung in the closet, or sewn into sachets with other insect-repelling herbs, like cedar shavings.
